ICON DICOM SCAN APP can transform an HP Workpath MFP to a secure, high-quality medical document scanner, capable of directly scanning to any manufacturer’s PACS, through the DICOM protocol.
DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is the international standard to transmit, store, retrieve, print, process, and display medical imaging information.
Benefits:
- Can seamlessly add any scanned document to any manufacturer’s PACS without the need of any other middleware and without the user leaving the MFP .
- Modern (material) and easy to use user interface.
- Offers a demo mode where the end-result gets watermarked. In this way, the whole solution could be evaluated for its fitness before any purchase.
- Supports secure DICOM connections to protect sensitive medical data.
- Can query any HIS or RIS system, through the DICOM protocol, and retrieve patient and examination information. In this way, the scanned documents are always ending being part of the correct examination
SCANNING WORKFLOW
- The user scans one or more documents, related to a specific patient’s examination, creating one or more resulting PDF documents.
- Each resulting PDF file is encapsulated in a DICOM PDF object. The selected or entered patient and examination information is added in the DICOM PDF objects.
- The application’s license is checked. If there’s no active license, the PDFs are getting watermarked. – The produced DICOM PDF objects are pushed, using the DICOM protocol (C-STORE SCU), to the PACS system.
- Without leaving the MFP and depending on the selected store profile, the user queries the daily radiological schedule (C-FIND SCU – DICOM modality worklist) from the Hospital or Radiological Information System (HIS or RIS) and selects or enters the patient and examination information that corresponds to the scanned documents.
- The scanned documents are now part of the specific patient’s examination and available along with the examination’s images.
HOME SCREEN
- The application’s home screen allows the preview and management of the scanned documents.
- Application settings could be accessed in a secure manner (password-protected).
- Quick access to new document scan and store commands are provided

ICON DICOM SCAN – SETTINGS
- Application’s settings allows the editing of DICOM network and store profile settings.
- DICOM communication logs could be exported for further analysis

STORE PROFILES
- Multiple store profiles could be defined, one or more for each RIS and/or PACS.
- Profiles that allow the user to manually enter the patient and examination information could also be created.
AND STORE PROFILES – GENERAL
- For each store profile, a unique name should be set.
- The source of the patient and examination information could be set along with the option to combine multiple scanned documents to a single DICOM PDF dataset.

STORE PROFILES – PACS
- The PACS network address, port and DICOM AE title could be configured.
- Secure DICOM connections could be enabled through the use of SSL certificates.
- Users have the ability to test their configuration (ICMP and DICOM C-ECHO).

STORE PROFILES – RIS
- The RIS network address, port and DICOM AE title could be configured along with query and tag mapping options.
- Secure DICOM connections could be enabled through the use of SSL certificates.
- Users have the ability to test their configuration (ICMP and DICOM C-ECHO).

ICON DICOM SCAN – SCAN
- The scanning screen allows the user to select the scanning preferences.
- Scanning preferences include color, resolution, original size, original destination and duplex mode.
ICON DICOM SCAN – QUERY & STORE
- The query and store screen allows the user to select a store profile and accordingly query for patient and examination information or to enter it manually.
- After selecting or proving the patient and examination information, scanned documents are converted to DICOM PDF datasets and pushed to the PACS that’s configured for the selected store profile.

QUERY & STORE – RIS
- The user can query the radiological schedule for patient and examination information and embed it in the created DICOM PDF datasets.
- Query parameters include patient MRN and name.
QUERY & STORE – MANUAL
- In the case of a manual profile, the user could enter the patient and examination information to be used while creating the DICOM PDF datasets.
- Patient information includes MRN, name, gender and birthday. Examination information includes study description and date.
